I had trouble each time hooking this up but the cable guy and my computer guy had NO trouble when I needed to it moved to another location so that may be a girl thing. The fact that I can play it on my computer makes it worth every second. I have converted a lot of my old VHS tapes to DVD and it is great to be able to find exactly what I am looking for. It is a little complicated for a girl/older lady like me to figure out how to use and play and edit but when I took the time to learn how to do it, it was well worth the time spent. I am still learning about editing as it saves DVD record space and you can record more if you are careful.I am very happy with this product. Of course I like the fact that it also can play my DVD's and VCR/s
don't have hdmi. Hook up was a snap (all these people who were giving it bad reviews because it was hard to set up and work. I recorded one program, and when I went to set the title, the unit froze up. I don't know what your issue was but even without looking at the book I set it up and recorded a show.
it REALLY breaks. (Before I did my recording I double checked the quick start guide, and yeap I was right. I mean how hard is it to hook the RCA from the sat box to the "in" connections and the hdmi to the out and TV. I bought this unit on Monday. and sure enough it locked up again. this was crap.
I turned it off and on several times before I got it to "unstick". I decided to check the reviews and discovered the majority of the reviews were bad and those with issues seemed to start with something small and just after the warranty runs out.
(I used it 3 times and it locked up twice). I'm sorry.
So. use another set of rca plugs.
really not hard AT ALL)MY issue is while Samsung usually makes great products. I wanted to finish off the DVD I'd started recording.
So I took it back got my money back and am now awaiting my new Toshiba DVD recorder). So while it's not hard to set up, it just doesn't seem to be made all that well.
and the best part is that you don't need a degree in electronics to use it. We've made many, many DVDs, all of which play magnificently in our two other (Sony and Magnavox) disc players.
We've used it on a daily basis for about two years now without a single problem. We've owned three or four different DVD/VCR combo units, and we've had better luck with this model than with those costing nearly twice as much.
Speedy navigation and editing/finalizing is a breeze. It is super-easy to use with clear, concise manual instructions; straightfoward hook-up; easy-to-understand panel displays; and a sleek, low-profile appearance.
Creates high quality discs and tapes - whether from the television or duping between the two. Highly-dependable and a true work-horse.
A SOLID FIVE STARS for this superior product.

There are some things you can do to get it back into working shape. Hi,I created a document that addresses some of the issues with this machine. Preventive Measure for future DVD issues 3. Other 1. 2. Go here to view it.[.].This unit worked great when New, but now it's acting up. DVD player displays the word "Super" III. DVD not burning. DVD not playing 3. Reset the DVD Player 2. Firmware Update
Do NOT buy this product. It gave trouble not long after we bought it but we could make it work. It is a piece of junk. I bought this new not even 2 years ago and the dvd went out in less than 15 months. It started with not recognizing dvd's we recorded ourselves to finally not any at all. So don't waste your money on this trust me.
